You Read the Labels. You Still Hit the Drive-Through. Welcome to #HolisticWithAnAsterisk

You can care about what goes on your skin and still feed your family drive-through chicken nuggets.
Both things can happen on the same day.
Around here, they sometimes do.
If you’ve ever felt like making thoughtful choices somehow signed you up for a lifetime of homemade everything, let me relieve you of that obligation.
You’re allowed to care without turning your entire life into a full-time research project.
That’s what #HolisticWithAnAsterisk means.
I’m the woman who reads the labels, asks questions, and wants to understand why an ingredient is there.
That part is real.
So are the animals, homeschooling, work, family responsibilities, and days when dinner becomes whatever we can manage.
I take my ingredients seriously. Ourselves? Not nearly as much.
I didn’t start Suds & Buds to tell women they weren’t doing enough.
I started making products because I wanted to understand what my family was using.
Now I make them for people who care about those same questions—but don’t necessarily want to become soapmakers themselves.
You can let someone else do the making. You still get to be particular about what you buy.
The asterisk isn’t an excuse to cut corners
It means real life gets exceptions.
The products still deserve thoughtful formulation, accurate ingredient information, and care.
For our tallow balms, I choose grass-fed, grass-finished beef kidney suet and blend the rendered tallow with botanical oils selected for each formula.
For soap and home fragrance, I may choose fragrance oils because I want a particular scent. Essential oils have their place, too.
I want to explain those decisions so you can make yours.
Calling something “natural” doesn’t answer every question. Neither does a pretty label with a leaf on it.
What’s actually in the product? What is it meant to do? Does it suit the way you want to use it?
Those are useful questions.
Start with something you’ll actually use
You don’t need to replace everything in your bathroom.
Choose one everyday product that matters to you.
If your hands feel dry after washing, start with your moisturizer.
Our Vanilla Luxe Whipped Tallow Balm combines rich tallow with vanilla bean–infused jojoba, argan, sweet almond, and castor oils, plus beeswax, vitamin E, and almond extract.
The fats and oils soften and condition dry-feeling skin. Beeswax gives the balm structure and helps its moisturizing layer stay on the skin.
Start with a tiny amount on your hands, cuticles, or dry body areas. Add more if needed.
It’s a practical little jar you can keep beside the sink—not another elaborate routine to maintain.
Prefer to begin with something you rinse off? Explore our handmade soap and skincare, read the ingredients, and choose what appeals to you.
You belong here without passing a lifestyle test
Maybe you make your own bread.
Maybe you buy it.
Maybe you carefully research skincare and then discover that nobody remembered to thaw dinner.
You’re in good company.
A Savvy Sudsaholic asks questions, appreciates good ingredients, and knows that thoughtful choices don’t require a perfectly coordinated life.
No crunchy Olympics. No bathroom purge. No guilt about yesterday’s lunch.
Just products you understand, enjoy, and actually use.
Start with something simple.
